The founder of Donup reached out because, after launching their MVP, they found themlseves unsure about what to build next.
We worked online using Zoom for meetings and Miro for collaboration.
Discovery Call & Approach – 1 hour
In our initial discovery call, Donup’s founder walked me through the process of building their product, the reasoning behind it, and what they wanted to achieve.
After reflecting on our conversation, I proposed several directions based on their priorities. They chose to focus on refining their product vision and identifying next steps, so I designed a structured approach spanning three 1-hour online sessions to help them:
- Clarify the impact they aspired to make through their product.
- Uncover the key value elements of the product’s user experience.
- Strengthen their product strategy by crafting a compelling North Star Statement.
- Generate and refine feature ideas aligned with the broader product vision.
Before our first workshop, I sent them a preparation exercise via email, designed to help him clarify the impact they aspire to make through their product.
Workshop 1: Clarifying Impact + Key Value Propositions – 1 hour
In the first half of our first 1-hour session, we reviewed their homework exercise, which served as a warm-up for the next activity—identifying the key value elements of their product’s user experience.
We then began an exercise where they imagined their ideal user experience to uncover core value fragments of the product. However, we ran out of time and continued this in the next session.
Workshop 2: Completing Value Propositions & Crafting a North Star Statement – 1 hour
In the second session, we finalised the product value exercise, revealing essential value fragments. These became the foundation for writing their North Star Statement.
When it came to crafting the statement, it only took a few iterations.
We reviewed it against a checklist of all the elements of a good North Star Statement–all were good to go.
Workshop 3: Rapid Ideation & Refinement – 1 hour
Before our third session, I reviewed our previous work and drafted several “How Might We” statements. I sent this and asked them to pick the two most compelling ones to guide our next session.
In the session, we began with a quick warm-up to unlock creative and lateral thinking before diving into ideation.
When ideating, I encouraged them to forget about constraints or feasibility, assuring them that we would refine the ideas later.
They generated eight new product feature ideas, which we then refined through structured discussion. By the end, they had a clear foundation of ideas to explore further by themselves.
Follow-Up Email
A few days later, I sent Donup’s founder a PDF summary of our workshop outcomes, along with additional insights to help them continue developing their product independently.
